The Center vs. A Part

Is God at the center or just part of your life?

Time for self-reflection. Let’s be critically honest in this moment. Are we putting God at the center of our lives? Or are we just doing enough to say we incorporated Him into our days?

For the God who wants to be our number one priority, we know He asks us to make Him the center. Yet, if we don’t quite get it, He doesn’t get annoyed. He patiently waits until we are truly ready to do what it takes to place Him there.

Maybe you want to put Him at the center but just aren’t exactly sure how. Like me, you probably thought making time to study, praying before you eat, and going to church meant He was the center. Well, yes, these are steps in the right direction. And at the same time, yes, some steps remain.

“Wherever you do not give God authority, you leave room for robbery.”

So, what does it mean to place God at the center? I’m still figuring this out. Maybe we can learn and grow together. But I believe we’ll know God is at the center of our lives when we refer to the Holy Spirit for guidance before making a decision or reacting to something — in our emotions, perspectives, finances, relationships, marriage, career, health, schooling, etc.

He becomes a filter through which everything flows. We become so engaged in our love for Him that we despise doing anything that may not align with His heart.

When you receive good or bad news, do you go to God first? If a friend confides in you and asks for advice, do you consult with God before offering your thoughts? Do you pray before stepping into a meeting? Or take that phone call? or try to resolve a conflict with someone you’ve been disagreeing with? What about someone who may have hurt you?

We want to note all the areas we have already given God because it’ll leave us with the things that we may not have readily surrendered. Those areas are the pinpoints where God is waiting to be revealed.

So where have you given Him space instead of place?
